Real Madrid have released an official statement condemning fan behaviour after their thrashing by Barcelona
On Saturday night, Los Blancos hosted Barcelona at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu for the first El Clasico of the 2024/25 La Liga season.
Hansi Flickβs team performed exceptionally well, with Robert Lewandowski scoring twice and goals from Lamine Yamal and Raphinha leading to a decisive 4-0 victory for Barcelona.
Following the match, a video emerged on social media showing fans directing racist and xenophobic slurs at 17-year-old Barcelona player Yamal, who scored the third goal.
Real Madrid issued a statement on their official website, saying: βReal Madrid strongly condemns any form of racism, xenophobia, or violence in football and sports. We deeply regret the insults shouted by a few fans last night in one section of the stadium.
βReal Madrid has initiated an investigation to identify and locate those responsible for these reprehensible insults, with the intent to take appropriate disciplinary and legal action.β
After the game, Yamal remarked: βWhen we were winning in the league, people claimed we were only beating mid-table teams, and that the true test would come in important moments.
βBut Madrid is one of the best teams in the world, and weβve defeated them 4-0. Weβve demonstrated, against both Bayern and Madrid, that we are ready for anything.β
He continued: βI was determined to score today, especially since I hadnβt found the net in a few games.
βItβs truly enjoyable to hear our fans more than the home supporters in their own stadium. Winning an El Clasico is significant, but itβs just three points, and we need to focus on the match against Espanyol next Sunday.β
With this victory at the Bernabeu, Barcelona increased their lead at the top of the La Liga table to six points.
