Liverpool is reportedly set to begin negotiations with Curtis Jones over a new contract after manager Arne Slot expressed his admiration for the 23-year-old’s outstanding performances this season.
Slot has been particularly impressed by Jones and sees him as a potential future captain of the club.
Liverpool has made an outstanding start under Slot, securing 17 wins from their first 19 matches, which has placed them in a strong position to qualify for major competitions.
A victory over Manchester City on Sunday could extend their lead to 11 points over the reigning champions.
Although Liverpool only signed Federico Chiesa this season, the team’s success is largely attributed to Slot’s ability to enhance the existing squad, including Jones, who has been in top form. The midfielder has earned two England caps and scored a memorable goal against Greece earlier this month.
Jones, whose current contract runs until 2027, is set to receive a significant pay raise. His current weekly wage of £15,000 is expected to triple, with the new contract likely to extend his stay at Anfield for at least another two years.
Slot has praised Jones for his transformation, joking that fatherhood may have contributed to his improved performance.
Jones himself acknowledged that there were moments when he wasn’t sure about his future at Liverpool, but now he feels ready to take the next step in his career.
