Liverpool have received huge ‘cash injection’ to bankroll January transfer spending spree

Liverpool are reaping the rewards of their superb Champions League campaign ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Arne Slot’s team is on the brink of securing a spot in the Champions League last 16 after extending their unbeaten streak in the competition with a 1-0 victory over Girona.

This marks only the second time in the club’s history that they have won their first six matches of a European campaign.

Due to their strong performance in the Champions League’s new format, which features a 36-team league stage, Liverpool has received a financial boost ahead of the January transfer window.

Every club that qualifies for Europe’s premier club competition automatically earns €18.62 million before any performance or broadcasting bonuses are factored in.

Additionally, UEFA grants €2.1 million for each win and €700,000 for every draw.

Having secured the initial €18.62 million for participation and six wins at €2.1 million each, Liverpool has already amassed a significant amount.

UEFA distributed the performance bonuses for matchdays 1-4 on November 22, and the bonuses for matchdays 5-8 are set to be paid on February 21, 2025.

As shown in a graph shared by X user Football Meets Data, Liverpool earned a substantial amount after matchday 4.

If they continue their success and finish top of the group, the Reds stand to earn an additional €9.9 million in prize money.

Ahead of the January transfer window, Liverpool have been linked with a £91 million double swoop for Bournemouth’s in-form left-back Milos Kerkez and Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, according to TeamTalk.

Bournemouth is reportedly seeking a minimum of £40 million to begin negotiations for Kerkez, but Liverpool is ready to make the deal happen. Zubimendi, on the other hand, has been a long-standing target for the club.

This comes after a relatively quiet summer, where Liverpool made just two signings—Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa—but it appears that Arne Slot will be given significant funds to strengthen the squad’s depth in January.

In addition to Milos Kerkez and Martin Zubimendi, Brazilian publication UOL reports that Liverpool are also interested in signing Brighton striker Joao Pedro. The report suggests that negotiations for the Brazilian forward will begin in January as part of Liverpool’s ongoing efforts to strengthen their squad.
