Talks planned in January: Liverpool set sights on raid of fellow PL club for ‘complete player’

Reports from Brazil indicate that Liverpool are looking to strengthen their South American presence at Anfield in 2025.

This season, the Reds’ attacking players have been mostly effective under Arne Slot, with Mo Salah leading the charge with 16 goals, while Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo have combined for 17. Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota have netted seven goals together, though Jota’s total would likely be higher if not for injuries (Transfermarkt).

Despite this, it seems the Premier League leaders are considering adding another forward next year, with one player already familiar with the Premier League being targeted.

Liverpool targeting Joao Pedro transfer
Brazilian news outlet UOL reports that Liverpool have placed Brighton forward Joao Pedro high on their transfer agenda for 2025, planning to open talks in January for a potential summer move.

The 23-year-old has been on Liverpool’s radar since arriving in England in 2020 when he signed with Watford from Fluminense in Brazil.

Reports suggest he fits the profile of the type of centre-forward Slot is looking for— a proven goal-scorer who can also drop deep and contribute to team play, similar to how Bobby Firmino did so effectively for the Reds in the past.

Could Joao Pedro be a realistic transfer target for Liverpool?

With Darwin Nunez struggling to find his scoring form this season and Diogo Jota facing recurring injury issues, it’s understandable why Liverpool might be looking for a new centre-forward in 2025. In recent weeks, the club has also been heavily linked with Eintracht Frankfurt’s standout striker, Omar Marmoush.

Marmoush has been in incredible form, scoring 17 goals in 21 games this season, which puts him ahead of Pedro, who has netted 24 goals in 49 appearances for Brighton since his £30m move from Watford last year.

While Marmoush’s goal-scoring record is clearly more impressive, Pedro is also a solid option. The 23-year-old has been effective for Brighton and has already adapted well to Premier League football. His former manager at Brighton, Roberto De Zerbi, even described him as a “complete player,” which is high praise for someone of his age.

Liverpool have a history of successful dealings with Brighton, having signed Alexis Mac Allister from them 18 months ago, and they’ve also acquired players like Jota, Virgil van Dijk, and Andy Robertson from other Premier League clubs in recent years.

Considering all these factors, a move for Pedro in 2025 seems quite possible, making it a situation worth monitoring in the coming months.
