Fabrizio Romano has reiterated that Liverpool remain committed to opening talks with Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold over their futures at the club.
The contracts of Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk are set to expire in the summer of 2025. Despite previous interest from Saudi clubs, the situation between Salah and Liverpool is far from settled.
According to the CaughtOffside columnist on the Here We Go podcast, although Salah’s comments after the Manchester United game caused concern among Liverpool fans, discussions about his future are expected to resume soon. Talks will also involve Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk to clarify their futures with the club.
The columnist emphasized that as of now, Salah’s situation with Liverpool is not over. Future discussions will address his contract details, including project alignment, contract length, and financial terms. Salah has been in excellent form this season, contributing six goals in the first three competitive games under Arne Slot. Any new contract offer will need to align with Liverpool’s commitment to financial sustainability.
Liverpool will be limited in the financial terms they can offer their key players. There is likely to be more flexibility for Trent Alexander-Arnold due to his youth (25) and exceptional talent. However, Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk, aged 32 and 33 respectively, will have less negotiating room regarding their contracts.
That said, Liverpool should make every effort to retain both players beyond 2025. Salah remains in excellent form and is expected to continue making a significant impact in the attack, while Van Dijk is still performing at a high level. It would be unfortunate for both to leave on free transfers at the end of their contracts.
