Real Madrid have reportedly decided to do something they haven’t done in five years after Dani Carvajal’s serious injury.
On Saturday night, Real Madrid returned to winning form with a 2-0 La Liga victory over Villarreal at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, thanks to goals from Federico Valverde and Vinicius Junior.
However, the win was overshadowed by a serious injury to veteran defender Dani Carvajal, who fell to the ground in significant pain during the final moments of the match.
Post-match, it was confirmed that the 32-year-old had sustained a ligament injury. He took to social media to announce, “A serious cruciate ligament injury has been confirmed. I will need surgery and will be sidelined for several months. I’m already looking forward to starting my recovery and returning stronger. Thank you all for your messages; I feel very loved.”
In light of Carvajal’s injury, reports suggest that Madrid may look to sign new players during the upcoming January transfer window. According to Spanish outlet Marca, the club could be in the market for both a centre back and a right back when the winter window opens.
Real Madrid last made a January signing in 2020, when they brought in Brazilian youngster Reinier Jesus. The last first-team addition in January was Brahim Diaz in 2019. Now, with Carvajal’s injury, the club may need to break this trend and secure a new player.
Reports indicate that Castello Lukeba, Jorrel Hato, and Vitor Reis are among the names being considered by the club’s sporting department.
Additionally, Vinicius Jr. was substituted during the match against Villarreal due to a possible injury. Manager Carlo Ancelotti commented afterward, stating, “He’s blocked. He had a problem with his cervical spine. He’s in pain, and tests will be conducted on him in the next few hours.”
