William Gallas has tipped Cole Palmer to make a sensational move away from Stamford Bridge in the summer if Chelsea fail to win silverware under Enzo Maresca.
Cole Palmer has quickly risen to stardom in English football since his £40m transfer to Chelsea from Manchester City.
Although he made his City debut in 2020, Palmer truly emerged last season after moving to Stamford Bridge, where his performance and contributions soared.
Since joining Chelsea, he has netted an impressive 28 Premier League goals and provided 16 assists in just 41 appearances.
While Palmer has established himself as one of the league’s top players over the past year, Chelsea faced challenges last season under Mauricio Pochettino. However, the team is now fourth in the Premier League after a strong start to the current campaign.
If Chelsea’s progress stalls and they fail to secure silverware, former defender William Gallas has suggested that Palmer should consider leaving England. In an interview with Prime Casino, Gallas mentioned that Barcelona would be an ideal destination for him to build a legacy.
“Barcelona would be a great move for him, but they already have talented young players like Lamine Yamal and might also sign Nico Williams,” Gallas noted.
He added that Palmer’s current form might make him too good for Chelsea if the club doesn’t improve alongside him. Palmer is likely to have another standout season, but it could be difficult for him to watch his friends win trophies if Chelsea continues to struggle. Gallas speculated that Palmer might want to discuss his future with Chelsea this summer if they don’t achieve success.
However, a move to Barcelona could be complicated due to Palmer’s lengthy contract with Chelsea.
Palmer initially signed a contract until 2031, but his impressive performances led to a pay rise and a two-year extension until 2033, making it likely that a substantial fee would be required to acquire the 22-year-old.
Despite the differences in style between La Liga and the Premier League, Gallas has no doubts that Palmer would excel at Camp Nou.
“He has the ability to succeed anywhere he goes because he is a very special player. His quality sets him apart from other English players, and he could achieve great success wherever he plays,” Gallas stated.
