BARCELONAGundogan asks Barcelona to let him leave before the end of the transfer market

Ilkay Gündogan has decided to end his stint at FC Barcelona. The German midfielder has communicated to both the coaching staff and the sporting department his intention to leave before the current summer transfer window closes.

Tensions between Gündogan and Barcelona have been building for some time. Despite his standout performance last season and approaching his 34th birthday, the club has made it clear that they are open to facilitating his departure if a satisfactory offer is made, given that he is one of their key signings

Despite Gündogan and his representatives frequently asserting their satisfaction at Barcelona and their intention to fulfill his contract, no concrete offers from Saudi Arabia or Turkey have emerged.

Recent developments have accelerated the situation. Barcelona had emphasized the need to resolve significant departures to alleviate internal issues and facilitate player registrations. In response, Gündogan has made it clear that he wishes to leave, with both national team coach Hansi Flick and Barcelona’s Deco being informed of his decision.

Just before the season opener against Valencia, Gündogan was unexpectedly omitted from the squad traveling to Mestalla. The club cited physical issues for his absence, although it coincides with the period leading up to his potential departure negotiations.

Gündogan remains a highly sought-after player. Galatasaray’s president has expressed a long-standing interest in signing him, while Fenerbahce, under Jose Mourinho, has indicated willingness to pursue the deal if feasible. Additionally, there have been ongoing inquiries from Saudi Arabian representatives about the possibility of Gündogan moving there.

Barcelona is currently staying silent on the matter, but it’s likely they will seek financial compensation in addition to saving Gündogan’s substantial salary. While Gündogan is a crucial player, the club has ample depth in the squad to cover his role, particularly with the addition of Dani Olmo.
