Following the recent acquisitions of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, Manchester United has shifted its focus to securing a new midfielder.
Initially, Sander Berge was a target for the club, but the negotiations fell through, leading him to sign with Fulham. As a result, Manuel Ugarte has become the main focus of Manchester United’s transfer efforts.
The 23-year-old Uruguayan has been frequently rumored to join Manchester United, and recent updates from Florian Plettenberg indicate that discussions are progressing well.
Plettenberg reports that Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are now in โadvanced negotiationsโ regarding Ugarte, with both clubs nearing a deal.
There remains some ambiguity about whether the transfer will be permanent or a loan with an obligation to buy.
While a verbal agreement with Ugarte has been reached, the finalization of the deal is pending.
The holdup appears to be due to differing valuations of Ugarte. Manchester United is aiming to negotiate a lower price, whereas PSG is sticking to their asking price of ยฃ51 million.
Ugarte, primarily a defensive midfielder, would significantly bolster Manchester Unitedโs squad, especially in providing support for Casemiro, who may need occasional rest or might be out of form.
Although Ugarte has only been at PSG for a year, he seems keen on moving to Old Trafford, and the deal appears to be progressing positively.
