- Barcelona star Lamine Yamal could break a Spanish law at Euro 2024 in Germany.
The young prodigy, born in 2007, is making his debut in an international tournament and has been included in Spain’s starting lineup for their match against Croatia. At just 16 years and 338 days old, he is the youngest player ever in the 64-year history of the tournament.
He celebrated his milestone appearance with an assist on Spain’s third goal, delivering a splendid cross to Dani Carvajal. Yamal, who could have represented Morocco but chose Spain, is considered the future star of La Roja. He has scored seven goals in 51 appearances for Barcelona, where he first played as a 15-year-old.
As Spain’s youngest ever player and goalscorer, Yamal has even brought his schoolwork to the Euros, attending online classes to stay on top of his education while dazzling on the field. Though he could legally drink alcohol in Germany, where the public drinking age is 14, it’s unlikely he will be doing so.
According to the Daily Record, individuals aged 14 to 16 are allowed to drink beer and wine in bars and restaurants as long as they are accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. Those who are 16 and older can consume alcohol in public places without a guardian present. However, spirits are restricted to those who are 18 and older.
In contrast, Spain has a legal drinking age of 18. Yamal also cannot get a tattoo or obtain a full valid driver’s license until he turns 18, unless he has parental authorization. However, these age restrictions do not apply to his performances on the international stage, and it seems he is poised to be a remarkable player for years to come.
