Arsenal handed worrying Martin Odegaard injury update days before North London derby

Arsenal have been handed a worrying update on star player Martin Odegaard following his injury during Norway’s Nations League clash.

Norway defeated Austria 2-1 in their Nations League match on Monday, with Manchester City’s Erling Haaland scoring the decisive goal. However, the victory came at a cost, as Martin Ødegaard sustained an injury that could significantly impact Arsenal, who are set to face Tottenham in a crucial Premier League clash.

Arsenal’s medical team has reached out to Norway’s staff to assess the severity of Ødegaard’s injury. It is uncertain if his ankle injury will keep him out of Sunday’s match.

Norway coach Ståle Solbakken has described the injury as serious, noting that Ødegaard’s condition appeared severe in the dressing room. He even joked that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta might not be pleased, saying, “It looked bad in the dressing room too. He didn’t have the nerve to continue. It is not certain that [Mikel] Arteta will call me tonight and praise me.”

Norway’s doctor, Ola Sand, has confirmed that Martin Ødegaard suffered a “small sprain” to his ankle. Sand stated, “He has a minor ankle sprain. We’ll monitor it, and if needed, we might use ultrasound to examine it further. If there’s still uncertainty, we’ll arrange an MRI tomorrow.”

Ødegaard, who has started all three of Arsenal’s league games this season, is crucial for the team, which has earned seven points so far. Arsenal faces a challenging fixture against Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This international break has been difficult for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who also lost Riccardo Calafiori to injury during a match against France. Arteta may have to manage without both Calafiori and Ødegaard for the upcoming match against Spurs.

Additionally, Arsenal will play Manchester City on September 22 and have Champions League fixtures against Atalanta and Paris Saint-Germain in the near future.
